Public Complaints

If you feel that you have a complaint about the conduct of a Police Officer or about the services or policy of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, you can choose to file a formal complaint. It is only by bringing your concerns to our attention that we can effectively address them.

It is the policy of the Greater Sudbury Police Service to address all complaints involving the policies of, or service provided by the Greater Sudbury Police and the conduct of police officers.

All complaints made about Greater Sudbury Police officers are investigated by members of the Greater Sudbury Police Professional Standards Bureau. Investigations are conducted in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with the provisions of the Police Services Act.

Complaints of incidents occuring before October 19, 2009 must be in writing and signed by the complainant. Complaints may be delivered to the Greater Sudbury Police Service or to the Ontario Civilian Police Commission (formerly OCCPS), personally or by an agent, by mail or by fax.

Where the person, who is a minor, is directly affected by the complaint, the parent or guardian of the minor may bring forth the complaint on the minor's behalf. The parent or guardian shall then be deemed to be directly affected by the complaint.

The standardized complaint form is available on line (8.5” x 14” paper required), or at Police Headquarters. Follow the instructions carefully, and forward the completed form to the attention of the Professional Standards Branch. ( Form ADM32.12/97 )

Ontario Civilian Police Commission

OCPC is an independent oversight agency committed to serving the public by ensuring that adequate and effective policing services are provided to the community in a fair and accountable manner.
